Setup a new Microsoft Dynamics CRM(D365) Trial Environment

In this blog post i would like to explain how to setup a new Microsoft Dynamics CRM Trial Instance.

Follow the below steps to setup a new Microsoft Dynamics365 Trial Environment.

Step-1 : Open a new incognito window from Google Chrome browser and Go to the website “” and you will be redirected to the below page.

Step-2: Scroll down a bit until you get a below section of the page.

Step-3:  Click on “Sign up here” button (highlighted in yellow) and as shown below screen.

Step-4: You will be redirected to the below image and Next click on “No Continue Signing up” (highlighted in yellow colour) to proceed further.

Step-5: You will be redirected to the following Page “Thank you for choosing Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement Plan

Step-6: Enter your personal email address (Which should be working) in the box shown below.

Step-7:  Click on “Next” button and you will get the below screen.

Step-8: Click on “Set up account” button and you will get the below screen.

Step-9: Enter the required details (Business Phone Number should be working) as shown below and click on “Next” button.

Step-10: You will be redirected to the below screen and here you need verify the business phone number entered by you in the previous step by using “Send Verification Code” button.

Here you will receive a 6 digit verification code to your Business Phone Number and Enter Your Verification Code as shown below.

Click on “Verify” button as shown in below screen.

Step-11: If the verification is successful you will be redirected to the below screen, Here you need to Enter “Your Business Name “and Click on Check availability button if it is available and “Next” button will be enabled and Click on “Next” button to proceed further.

Step-12: You will be redirected to the below screen, Here you need to Create User Name and Password for sign in to the organization. Please make sure you remember the enterted credentials.

Step-13:  Click on “Sign up” button and it will take few minutes to Create the account.

You will get a screen as shown below.

Step-14: Your signup will be completed and User Name will be generated as shown below and note down the User Name and the Password in a secured place.

Step-15: Click on “Get Started” button (highlighted in yellow box) as shown on below screen and you will be redirected to Power Platform Admin Center.

Step-16: Enter desired Name in the Name Field and do not make any changes to other fields as shown below and Click on Next button

Make sure you have the below configuration

Type : Trail (Subscription – Based)

Region : India – Default

Create a database for this environment? : Yes

Step-17: Enter desired Url in the Url Field and do not make any changes to other fields and Click on Save button

Make sure you have the below configuration

Language : English

Currency : INR

Enable Dynamics 365 apps : Yes

Automatically deploy these apps : All Enterprise Applications

Step-17: Environment will be created with given name with Preparing Instance State and wait for a few minutes until the state changed to Ready.

Step-18: Select the environment as shown below (highlighted in yellow) and you will be able to see “Open environment” button on top (highlighted in yellow) and click on that and you will be redirected Business Applications Page as shown below.

Step-19:  Finally, you will be redirected to Business Applications Page.

Step-20: You will be able to navigate to your desired module for ex: Sales by clicking on “Sales Hub” Business Application as shown below.

Insert dynamic values in Email Templates from Custom Entities

As a Microsoft Dynamics CRM developer some times you need to work with Email Templates. Basically email templates save time when creating multiple email messages. Email templates contain pre defined data of CRM records, so we don’t have to reenter the same information again. Specifying dynamic values from out of the box entities is pretty simple but there are some instances when we might want to add dynamic values from custom entities. To which we don’t have any straight forward approach in CRM as we cannot add custom entity in email template.

So here is the requirement:

Send an email upon successful creation of Patient record using email template.
Registration email should contain the following format and values from Patient Record.

Step – 1:
First create an Email Template of type “Global” by following below navigation Settings < Templates and then clicking Email templates and Click on ” New” button then Select Template Type “Global”  and click on “OK”.

Step – 3: Open the email template and place the required details in email body like below


Save the email template and you will see the updated email template like shown below


Step -4 : Create a workflow on Patient entity with create event and select the send the email step, associate the email template created above as shown below


Click on Set Properties and to see the below window and provide details in From/To and select “Patient Registration Email Template” and click on save and close and finally Activate the workflow


Step – 5: Create a patient record with relevant details as shown below


Step – 6: Go to Advanced find and search for Email Messages and click on results, You will see list of Email messages created by the system and select the relevant one and open


Here you go, your Patient Registration Email contains all the details which you have mentioned on the email template…!!!


Define different types of Input and Output arguments for custom workflow activity

As a MS Dynamics CRM Developer there are certain situations where you need to pass some of the entity field values as Input arguments to a Custom Workflow activity and some cases you may require to get some of the code execution results as Output arguments from a custom workflow activity.

In order to accomplish this you definitely need to have an idea on the Syntax of the Input and Output arguments for different types of fields.

Here i considered an entity called Patient which is having different types of fields and those are given below

Unexpected Behavior
The following list details issues whose resolutions correct actions performed in Dynamics that do not work as intended.

  • After running a search in the Quick Find Search field, and then deleting the field’s value, no results were displayed, when instead the full list of files should be displayed.
  • OOB resources were displayed in English regardless of the language setting used.
  • Selecting the “Access it here” link resulted in a blank page opening instead of ISH being launched.
  • Copied read-only values were stored twice into the clipboard and resulted in a duplicated value when pasted.

Repaired Functionality

The following list details issues whose resolutions repair items in Dynamics that are not functioning.

  • Update 72 for Google Chrome causes file names to append characters to the filename that prevent the file from being opened.
  • Contacts synced from CRM online to Outlook using server-side synchronization displayed an email address in place of the first and last name.
  • The routing rule set sequence contained duplicates, and rule items could not be moved up and down when the sort arrow was clicked too frequently.
  • Buttons intermittently stopped working, requiring the user to refresh the page to restore functionality.
  • The regarding field was not updated when multiple users tracked the same email.
    Searching for queue items returned no results.
  • Meeting attachments could not be opened after downloading them.
